Home Office

COVID-19 lockdowns forced the majority of people to convert their homes into workplaces. HOME OFFICE asks about a new relationship to theatre work in particular: what happens when the public theatre space moves into the bedroom and theatre is produced and attended to the living room?

HOME OFFICE brings together various documents from theatre makers, audiences, and students, especially from Bard College Berlin and Bard College Annandale (US), with whom Viral Theatres realized the teaching and research project ‘Post/Pandemic Theatres’ during the Fall 2021.

The Gripstheater project ‘Harte Arbeit’ (Hard Work) by the youth club Die Forscher*innen explores our relationship to (digitized) work in a theatre piece on the platform gather.town

In the Audience Box pandemic audiences responded to a set of questions that aimed at collecting their individual virtual theatre experiences.

THE LOCKDOWN DIARIES PODCAST

In the Lockdown Diaries Bard College Berlin students took a series of virtual journeys – sometimes alone, sometimes together – to places near and far to find out how we can re-connect with each other digitally from our own living-room couch.

The Lockdown Diaries were created by Bose Sarmiento, Naama Simon, Shreya Shukla, Evelyn Weiss and Miksa Gáspár and co-funded by the Experimental Humanities Collaborative Network.

VIRAL THEATRES EXHIBITION

The Viral Theatres Research Project is a collaboration of the EXC2020 Temporal Communities at the Freie Universität Berlin, the EXC Matters of Activityas well as Gamelab.berlin at Humboldt University Berlin & Bard College Berlin; the research project was generously funded by the VolkswagenFoundation. We also cooperated with the following partners for its final exhibition and symposium: Nachtkritik.de, metalab@Harvard & FU Berlin.
